| Suede is on sale... I don't really like all the cracks in mine, and the carpet cover looks very... 1980s.
So, has anyone done this before? I figure I could fill the cracks with bondo or similar, sand it smooth, and attach. What would you use to make it stick? I've seen this "headliner adhesive" in a can stuff before. Would hat work?
Just what I need, another Spring Break project - lol |

| Suede sounds cool. Not sure how you could keep it clean, or how it would hold up with the sun beating down on it. I recommend that you try it for us. | |

| I've seen photos of it on ISSF, but no write ups or anything that I could find. I figure I could minimize sun damage with a windshield reflector. It would also be REALLY cool on the cargo floor, but I use mine too much and would be constantly worried about damaging it. |

| I used DAP contact cement from a spray gun to put the vinyl on my dash in the grey wagon which i believe you have seen. Different dash than yours but you should be able to do it. As for cracks, I think I used a kit from vinylpro.com to fix some small cracks in the dash. | |

| I say go for it. I saw this leather wrapped one in person (and got to touch it!) at the GM Nationals in Carlisle. It was pretty cool, and I think a suede one would be nice. On the TBI dash it should be a lot easier than the '94+ Caprice dashboards. | |

| In a former "life" I built LOTS of custom leather airplane interiors and wrapped a LOT of really oddball shapes in leather and suede. If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to use 3M headliner glue in a spray can. Do it like it says to though, spray a heavy spiderweb on both pieces, then let it tack out till it's dang near dry, then carefully "roll" the glued suede over the glued dash. Then, leave yourself at least an inch or three all the way around so that you can glue the bageezuz out of it all on the backside to lock it down. The biggest thing you're going to need to do it prep the dash appropriately so that it'll accept adhesion - no matter what glue you use. Other than spraying it, like if you wanted to lightly brush the stuff on, the only product I'd trust is called "1300" or "1300L". Obviously, it's aviation grade. Thick as hell - snotty yellow - and can't even be sold in southern Commiefornia due to it smelling so good. It wouldn't be a hard job at all, ya jsut have to be careful and take your time. | |

| Cool. Thanks. Might see how much time I have left between Spring Break and Daytona and see what I can do. Otherwise, it may become a summer project, and since I'll have more time... more things will be wrapped. |

| I understand... You like your porn in a plain brown wrapper. I like to brandish it & slap it on the counter in the drug store in front of all the old ladies. | |

| Ray, the dash in my 71 is wrapped. It was really sun damaged, and badly cracked. They widened the cracks, filled, skinned the pad with foam, then french stitched the vinyl for it. It looks pretty factory, and is a WAY better job than I could have done. Had this done almost 20 years ago (holy crap, I'm getting old) and it still looks perfect. I can shoot some pics if you need me to. | |
