Subject: Can resonators go in front of the mufflers?? Tue Dec 18, 2012 9:29 am
Looking to quiet down the wagon just a bit. I know that GM put the after the mufflers, but will they work before?
My tailpipes will not allow for resonators.

I don't think there would be any benefit. I can't think of a single install like this. Best option will be to simply change out the mufflers.

yes. Lots of cars have it that way, including all cars with a 3800.

I only speak RWD V8. And occasionally VW 1.8T when I need to vent frustration.

Our 2002 Impala LS has its resonator under the center hump and the mufflers by the back bumper.
We had a Nissan 240SX and the resonator was in front and the muffler was in the rear also.
I am not sure how a resonator in front of the mufflers on a 95 b-body wagon would work sound wise.. If one were to use a pair of the 2 1/2 Font pipes from Dynomax and put the resonators ether side of the drive shaft and then the main mufflers in the stock location. Then some over the axle pipes exiting behind the rear wheels.. I think I would want a X Pipe in the system also. Dose the car have catalytic converters?

I ended up purchasing a set of Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and doing it the right way. Sounds much better so far. No expressways just yet. Will report back.

So today I tweeked the pipes a bit as they were rubbing after the exhaust began to settle in.

I used 17749 super turbos with dynomax OTA pipes and CIA OTA pipes dumped behind the wheel. It was ok around town but became annoying on really long hauls. I much preferred it when I added the resonators from the dynomax kit.
