PostSubject: INFL REST Light!   INFL REST Light! Icon_minitimeTue Mar 12, 2013 10:20 pm

I recently swapped out the steering wheel on my 1993 Roadmaster Estate Wagon, and opted for a much nicer looking one, so I think, from a 1990 Buick Estate Wagon. The color of blue and the wood trim match my interior perfectly, and since it does not have an airbag its much nicer to use and to look at. But there is one downfall to this steering wheel, since it does not have an airbag its triggering the INFL REST light on my dash, and I'd like it if I could find a way to turn it off using a resistor on the air bag circuit under the dash. The only thing is, is that I'm not sure what ohm resistor to use in this case. Any information or tips will help. Thanks in advance.

No idea about adding in a resistor. if it were me, id just take the light out of the cluster. removing the cluster is easy in these cars, done it many times on my '92.

welcome to the forum! you should post an introduction! Very Happy

I believe its a 10 ohm resistor but the guys will chime in shortly.Welcome to the group Christian.

Being a 93 there was only one bag to begin with. Just pull the bulb as the system is useless now anyways Very Happy

I just removed the bulb from my gauge cluster when I installed my leather Olds sport wheel on my '92 OCC. No Check Engine light, no issues.

Please post pics of your install when you can. Would really like to see it on there!

When you pull the cluster, DO NOT forget to unclip the shift indicator wire from the steering column!

Ask me how I remember that....see page 2 here and pic below. DOH! : https://gmlongroof.4umer.com/t7246p20-disco-radio-15-din-alpine

If you gotta have a work bench, why not have one with a little class......

Wink

Plus when Misty asks why I need a car in the garage I can't even use, I point out that I DO use the GTO all the time.....

The resistor is a 2 ohm, 10 watt. You can get a pack of 2, 4 ohm 10 watt resistors at Radio Shack for about $3. If you wire them in parallel you get a 2 ohm 10 watt resistor pack. If you put it across the connector it will make the car think it has an airbag.

I have done this to both of my cars, and it works great. I get the flashing light for a few seconds, and then it goes out. If you have a 94-96, the passenger's side will still work.

And I suppose if I happen to have (2) 10-Watt 1-Ohm resistors, I could just run them in series and then that would give the same effect of (1) 10-Watt 2-Ohm resistor, correct?

The 2, 1 ohm resistors in series works too.
