[font=Comic Sans Ms]Hello all! Hope everyone is staying warm!

I would like you to turn your thoughts to a warm, sunny day at the end of July...

We have shelter #2 at the park again--that's where we were last year. I need to finalize that paper work, but I know we have a spot! (And I think that's is the spot you like best.)

I believe the general feeling after the '09 fest was that the day is:
A. Too rushed and you would like to have more time to just hang out at the park.
B. You have had enough of Abigails.

We can stay at the shelter until dark, so come early and stay as long as you want. I will look into having dinner catered at the park, but I need to know how much you want to spend on your meal and what you would like to eat!

Give me some ideas and I'll get to work!

Happy New Year Mrs. Fest, family & Mr. Fest!

We liked shelter #2 and that would be great to go back there this year

I enjoyed hanging out at the park, more time would be great.

Abigails, I had no problem with, maybe some guys want a change. A catered meal would be nice, I'm not too updated on prices, but maybe in the $12 to $15 range. As Fred will tell you, you don't buy on price alone.

The one thing I would suggest is: make it easy on yourself and Fred. We don't mind paying. Also ask for donations: soda, hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. It is not right that we are not helping to pay.

Can't wait

I agree with Tom C. and all his comments. Keep it simple, I think we are all easy to please. I would spend up to $30.00 per person if I had too. Idealy $10.00-15.00 per person IMO, but it's just going to be my wife and I this year, no kids.

Mike is correct, probably to cater for the whole day might be closer to $30, that's fine. I was thinking one meal, but it will probably be an all day thing.

Shelter 2 is fine. One thing concerns me though, if dinner is catered (I am liking the Dinosaur BBQ- Full service, plan 3......) I would not want it to interfere with the Track team. They provide great burgers and dogs. Maybe have the grill team can serve lunch at 10-11AM so there will be room for the evening BBQ?

On Abigails, I liked the food and prices, but with the seating arrangements, you only get to hang out with a couple of people at your table. Catered at the park will allow us to have more time to get to know more people.

Problems arise if it is raining on the day of the fest. At Abigails, weather is not an issue.
Just a thought.

If burgers for lunch is fine for all, we'll do that & let dinner be catered.

The shelters provide, um, shelter if weather turns, so no fears.

More to come!

Microtel's number 315-539-8438
We don't usually bother to reserve a block of rooms because most of the guys just book a room for the next year while they are here!!

My sister and dad are no longer coaching the cross country team in Geneva. They have moved on to bigger and better things--coaching the men and women at Wells College! My sister is going to see if she can get some of the team to come and help out at the fest this year...I dont't know WHAT we'll do if they can't! I'll worry about that in April...

Abigails will actually cater a BBQ chicken dinner for about $12--add St. Louis Style BBQ Ribs for $14. (Keep in mind those are last year's prices...)

I have also looked into Dinosaur BBQ--I am waiting to hear back from them about prices. I am sure they will be more expensive (My guess is $17-$23/person), but there is no question it will be good.

Club 86 also has a BBQ chicken dinner (with more sides than Abigail's but it will be the same chicken) for $14.95.

That's what I have right now--I'll let you know when I have more specific details.

Yeah--I am pretty sure putting a pig in the ground would cause a few problems at the park....sorry.

"Plan Three with Full Service" from the Dinosaur will cost more than most people are looking to spend for dinner. (Ya have to add a delivery fee becuase we are 45 miles from the place PLUS an 18% service fee to the cost of the meal).

So if we go with the Dinosaur I think we would need to go with "Plan Two Delivery" A 10% service charge and a delivery fee (at least $100) would then be added to the per person cost.

The Dinosaur is good--but it aitn't cheap.

Could you tell me what you would want to eat...that would help narrow down the cost.
BBQ chicken quarters and (pick one):

C. BBQ Texas Brisket

Let's talk sides... would Dinosaur Macaroni Salad be too much after WagonFest pasta salad for lunch? It IS really good and different from WagonFest pasta salad...

Other choices include:
BBQ Beans
Black Beans
Cajun Corn
Roasted Vegetables with Orzo
Salt potatoes with Cajun Garlic Butter
Carrot Raisin Salad
Chopped Salad
Coleslaw
Harlem Potato Salad

We get two--may pay extra for a third...or I can just get lettuce and dressing and we can have tossed salad as another option.

Okay-we can have BBQ chicken and BBQ pork from the Dinosaur (delivered, NOT cooked on site) with two sides for about $15/person. Adding a thrid side would run another $1.50 or so per person. I'll get an exact price for that if you are interested in it...

Bill-I'll get some details about the tater salad the next time I call...that is if the price seems right to everyone.

Chris--talk to Fred before you do too much on the dash plaques--we must be careful with funds.

Thanks to everyone offering to help! If I see you standing around--I'll put you to work. (Now everyone will scatter when they see me coming.) Every year we seem to add an extra little something, so some extra hands will be good especially during the day on Friday and Sat. morning. Thanks!

I think that price is quite reasonable. Including the extra $1.50 for a third side, not that we need three, lol.

Memphis tends to be dry rubbed and the "wet" sauce is more of a tomato based sauce than vinegar.

"Memphis style" tends to place more importance on the flavor of the meat itself and how it is smoked, than on the coating.

The downside (if there is such a thing in BBQ), is that if not done right, the meat tends to be dry and jerky- like.

Woot. Have been off the forum(s) lately.

Going to request my days off tomorrow morning. And learning from last year, I'm taking the following Monday off. Smile

Dino gets our votes. Preferably some form of chicken, but I'll try whatever they bring. And Cornbread is FTW!

Can't wait to see you all there!

What's everyone think of a game of football at the park? I have a hunch Jake would be interested in that.. Very Happy

Anything off the barbie is fine by me... and those prices sound very reasonable.

Hope to see everyone there. I'll have my WRDC installed, 4.56s, DCM handles, black lock covers, DCM mirrors... you know, the same stuff I've been saying I'll get done for the past four years and then never do. At least I have some new wheels this time around, though!

the law of supply and demand,. all these wagon folks wanting the same place, same time, same bat channel etc,.so microtel now raises the rate Mebbe next yEAR,. there ought to be a block of rooms reserved at an agreed price,. (group rate discount etc,..) unless of course wagon fest moves to a different location,.. Wink

AAA will save you 10%. I got lucky and get 20% through my company but have to show an ID card that says I work for them. I still may bail and go the camping route.

How far is the campground from the Micro-tel?????

We normally stay at Sampson State park, about 20 min south of Waterloo. Theres a private park just down the road from Freds old shop but can't comment on it as we have never stayed there. Cayuga state park is on the north end of the next lake east of Waterloo but its usually booked solid for that time period. A little closer then Sampson but closer to the Micro-tel.

Nick,

N.Y.S. Parks web page said there are grills on the park grounds so I figure you can

cook out yourself if you like. You can probably bring your own grill too.

Dinner on Saturday is, as always, an optional affair. The added benefit of staying at the park for dinner is that people can choose different options for their own meal, but we can still all eat together. There are small grills throughout the park that can be used, though I would suggest bringing your own if possible. There is also a large grill behind the shelter. It is also possible that the gas grill used to cook the burgers and dogs for lunch will be there to use. (Availability of that grill would depend on the time the rental company needs to pick it up as it needs time to cool.)

Wegmans is just up the road from the park, so it is a quick run to the store if anyone wants to pick up items to prepare their own meal--or get something already prepared!

It is still too early for WagaonFest to completey take over life here...I'll have to check in on a more regular basis to make sure we aren't missing questions.

AAA will save you 10%. I got lucky and get 20% through my company but have to show an ID card that says I work for them. I still may bail and go the camping route.

How far is the campground from the Micro-tel?????

5-8 minutes..................... Cayuga State Park. Still have lots of spots left if you do not want power. Power spots down to a couple.......

That'd be fine,. as long as it doesn't look like any ones wagon in particular,.especially not like my lowered crappy flamed junk bucket, i,d be embarrassed,.
I,m sure folks will be proud to display a plaque with a picture of your car on it,.
will it come adorned with personalised plates saying 'brokecello"..????
