I'm going to have to step up my game. All these pretty chassis are making me feel inferior.

Well, I will not be ready for paint by Dec...but I might try to talk to you when the time comes and perhaps I can just drive it up or something. It will be a little bit longer (like Feb or later) before I am at that stage I think.

| Well...I had a free Sat yesterday and it was not the day I was hoping for. Rain rain rain I started peeling off the woodgrain just so I could make some kind of progress. I had to stop at the tailgate when the storm got worse. Came back this afternoon and make some good progress. Cara came along to keep me company while I rolled around with my paintbrush Got one good coat of the Rust Encapsulator on before I had to quit. Looking good under there!! I really need to buy some new rear upper control arms. These are just to crusty. I took them off and took the grinder/wire wheel to them...but they are still nasty. Chris | |

| Man, you got some serious free time. I did some rust repair on my wagon yesterday - painted a few dings on the leading edge of the hood, drove the back end up on ramps, went under and cleaned off as much rust as I could, and shot some rusty metal primer and black topcoat on it. Now the wagon goes to the shop to get oil-sprayed for the winter. A couple of hours was all I had to spend on her. | |

wow, you had hours? I can only afford a few minutes to put gas and power steering fluid in it. Although the PS fluid is doing a nice job of spraying the underside with fluid. Man I need a few days to work on it!!!!

| So....actually had a pretty good day today on the '96 Serviced/cleaned/painted and installed the rear end. Still need to buy my brake lines, so they look horrible...but I put them back on for now. Need to touch up the control arm bolts too. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a new differential cover. I cleaned mine up the best I could, but it still is kinda crappy looking. Cleaned all the undercoating off the gas tank and got the straps all ready. Will put in the new fuel pump/strainer tomorrow and put the tank up. Might start on the engine stuff tomorrow too. Dunno yet...I just know I am completely bushed. Going to lay down now! Chris | |

| Shoo, Nick...if I had the time and space...I would do it for you I do have fun with it. But it sounds like Robert will be sandblasting the bottom of his wagon, so you might want to drive to OH. Lol! Ok, so the tank is back in and fuel lines are all re-run and hooked up. I need to buy/find those two clips that hold the fuel wiring harness to the rear floorpan. Anyone have a couple they can spare that are not all chewed up? - Frank sent me some cast away shocks from his new toy ('95 DCM SS) and I gladly bolted these in. Thanks again Frank!! - I also started the engine detail work. Taking it in stages as I don't want to have everything torn down at once since this thing has to sit outside (under the carport and covered though) I still have the timing cover (new gaskets ) and oil pan (paint and new gasket) to do. Then I will tackle the intake. Mike gave me a used can of red engine paint, thought I would try them on the valve covers. Eh...dunno. Can't wait to see my shiny new headers on the engine though! Well, I have not bought them quite yet, but I can imagine them at least. Chris

| If I was you, I'd use paint to highlight what you want folks to focus on. Paint the block, intake and valvecovers whatever color you choose (chevy orange or whatever), then paint everything else black to hide it. That's basically what I did on my 9C1. By everything else I mean water pump, accessory bracket, alternator, anything that bolts onto the engine itself. | |

| Chris, here's an example of what I'm talking about: What do you notice? 1. Engine 2. Supercharger and piping 3. THAT STUPID HVAC BLOCKOFF PLATE!!! All that time and effort and they couldn't paint the plate black. Try #2. This one is done PERFECTLY. What do you notice? THAT AWESOME ENGINE. Nevermind that he hid everything else in the fenders, but it illustrates the point. Careful choice of painted parts under the hood will make all the difference. | |

| Thanks guys! No, upgrades to this motor right now. Gotta stay on budget and I am afraid the paint/body work will add up quick. Just a little nervous about spending a lot on the engine right now. I do have a backup engine that will eventually go in with some heat latter on Joel....that is a pretty good point. (and LOL on the block off plate!!) I will need to think about that. I do not want to go crazy with the red (only have a little in the can anyhow). My plug wires will be red ( Magnecor) too. I did have to order the reverse torx bit for the Opti, so until that comes I am stopped for now. Still need to order the plugs/wires also. | |

| hmm those pics look familiar, lol. Glad to be of service to illustrate a point. I hadn't noticed the block off plate to you mentioned it, Joel, good eye. My head was spinning around like an 18 year old at the titty bar up there. That gold Caprice was sweet. Total sleeper as the the body/interior looked totally stock, the Mopoar on the other hand was a living Hot Wheels car, I loved it.
Chris, a quick word on the reverse torx bit. When they say 7lbs of torque they mean it. I snapped 3 bolts off putting the new cap on. Good thing I had the four that came off along with the new ones. It's WAY TOO EASY to over torque and you hear TICK! then you start cursing!
